I was reading about the prophet Samuel in the Old Testament where God instructs him how to go about anointing a new King over Israel to take the place of Saul. Samuel is to go to Bethlehem to have a sacrificial gathering and there he would meet Jesse. God told Samuel that one of Jesse’s sons would be the new King and that Samuel would anoint the one who God directs him to. Jesse brings to Samuel each of his sons and Samuel immediately looks upon Eliab, one of Jesse’s eight sons and judges him by his strong appearance and says “surely this must be the one the Lord would have me anoint.”
But the Lord said to Samuel, “do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearence, but the Lord looks on the heart.” God spoke to Samuel and the Lord chose the youngest, a shepherd boy named David. The point is, “God looks upon our hearts and see’s our motives and our selfesh desires as well as what He can do in us and through us.” What does God see when He looks at your heart and life? My prayer is that God sees His Spirit and love in us!
